Library · Meeting of October 15, 2026

Saugus Library Trustees approved $34,000 in state aid for an interior repaint and $3,000 for a children's author visit. The board, chaired by Sullivan, voted unanimously at its October 15 meeting to fund the repainting contract with Somerville-based BRAUSA, which grew from an initial $31,000 bid to $34,000 after Library Director Alan Tebow asked the firm to also paint the building's two entrance foyers. Trustees separately approved $3,000 to help bring "I Survived" author Lauren Tarshish to Belmonte STEAM Academy on November 5, part of a $4,500 program also funded by the Saugus Public Library Foundation and Friends of the Library.

Tebow told the board the library must file a state waiver after its municipal appropriation came in $4,425 under the required threshold, calling it a shortfall "most people" would miss "by tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars." The library closed this week for the painting project and expects to reopen October 26, though early voting continues uninterrupted in the community room through October 30.
