Saugus Planning Board approves peer review for 24 Broadway cannabis retail proposal
Planning Board · Meeting of March 5, 2026
Saugus Planning Board votes to seek peer review for a proposed cannabis retail building at 24 Broadway while deferring action on the long-running 860 Broadway occupancy dispute. The board unanimously authorized a quote from Tetra Tech to review the site plans submitted by applicant Yash Patel of V&B Saugus Realty, represented by engineer Ian Ainsley and attorney Jonathan Stark-Sacks of Johnson and Bornstein, for a 3,000-square-foot one-story retail building that has already cleared Select Board and Zoning Board of Appeals review. The board also continued the 24 Broadway public hearing to April 2 after Ainsley said the team filed a Notice of Intent with the Conservation Commission the previous day and hopes to begin construction this summer.
At 860 Broadway, Sean McCormick, attorney for the owners of the Granville at Saugus residential development, arrived unannounced seeking occupancy signatures, prompting Chair John O'Brien to say, "I'm so sick of hearing about 860 Broadway" while urging both sides to meet before the next session to resolve the outstanding as-built checklist, which includes a disputed bedroom count of 335 units and an unresolved irrigation condition.
