Selectmen approve liquor license, quarry permit
Saugus Selectmen approved a liquor license transfer and a quarry permit extension, but hit a snag on store size.
Board of Selectmen · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Saugus Selectmen approved a liquor license transfer and a quarry permit extension, but hit a snag on store size. The board voted unanimously to extend Aggregate Industries' special permit for quarry operations at 1731 Rear Broadway for six months under 31 standard conditions, after attorney Richard Magnin said no further blasting is planned. Separately, the board unanimously approved transferring Bosky's Liquors' all-alcohol license to new owners Viral Patel and Parth Patel, but only after board members calculated the floor plan showed roughly 4,100 square feet against the applicant's proposed 3,900-square-foot figure.
"We thought it was a simple transfer, but if you're changing the square footage, we have to indicate that on the license," one board member said. The final license will list the space as "approximately" a figure still to be confirmed by the applicant. The board also accepted the resignation of 15-year Library Trustee Gail Murray and reappointed Joseph Durant to the Board of Health through December 31, 2028.
