School Committee · Meeting of February 12, 2026

SAUGUS — The Saugus School Committee advanced three draft policies, including one on artificial intelligence, to a second reading and asked the Select Board to revisit a stalled traffic fix. Member Brian Doherty's long-dormant proposal to add no-parking signs on Pierce Memorial Drive, aimed at easing a dismissal-time "choke point" outside Saugus Middle High School, won unanimous backing to go back to selectmen and police. Finance official Paula Andrews reported the district had spent 54 percent of its budget through 58 percent of the year and warned athletics funding "will be okay for this school year" but "not be so great next school year." The committee approved $1,081,948.66 in bills on a 3-0 roll call and a $1,399.64 Belmonte School PTO donation for a bus.

MassDOT's Deborah Crichton said her Safe Routes to School traffic analysis for the high school is expected by spring.
