Selectmen grant martial arts permit, ban parking near school

Saugus selectmen unanimously approve special permit for martial arts school. Herman Ocasio of Lawrence received an S(2) permit to operate Master O Karate Academy, LLC at 327 Broadway, Suite 351, offering instruction to children and adults with two full-time and five part-time staff across Monday–Friday 12:00 PM–9:00 PM, additional Tuesday 6:00 AM–7:00 AM, and Saturday 8:30 AM–3:00 PM hours. The Board also voted unanimously to establish a no-parking zone on both sides of Pearce Memorial Drive from Main Street to the school parking lot entrance after the School Committee reported that parked vehicles create traffic bottlenecks during student dismissal and a safety hazard.
Middle-high school Principal Carla Scuzzarella endorsed the measure, stipulating enforcement would be essential.
