Town Meeting · Meeting of May 11, 2026
Saugus Town Meeting sent a contested ash-landfill resolution back to its sponsor on a 28-19 roll call vote. Members spent two hours debating whether to push Town Manager to negotiate a host community agreement with Winn Waste Innovations worth an estimated $1.9 million a year, with Precinct 10's Peter Manoogian calling the existing proposal a "cash for ash deal" and Selectman Vinny Ciccolini arguing the timing was premature. Earlier, members approved more than $16.4 million in road, water and sewer capital spending and about $1.06 million in school enrichment funding, including an amended $215,000 athletic and fine-arts article.
Town Meeting also passed, 46-1, an amendment banning all hunting at Pranker's Pond while preserving bow hunting elsewhere in town.
